Introduction

This book was written to help all mental health professionals and human services professionals in independent practice who want to learn how to market their practice ethically and effectively. These marketing concepts apply equally well to psychologists, social workers, family therapists, hypnotherapists, counselors, and executive coaches. Whether you primarily provide mental health services, or other psychologically based services to individuals, couples, groups or organizations, you should find this marketing approach helpful. While most human services professionals are solo practitioners, these concepts are likely to be even more effective in a group practice, especially if the group is composed of a diverse group of professionals. I realize that professional practices vary considerably from one professional to another, from one section of the country to another, and between the various professional groups who provide psychological services. The business and marketing concepts reviewed here should work equally well in any professional practice, and in any socioeconomic area.
